Having spent the evening of Boxing Day and following morning with no electricity after the last storm - 14 hrs in total we were reconnected at 10.30am on the 27 Dec. The winds on the Llyn Peninsular were recorded at 109mph.
Then more repair work to day with an hour off at 11.50am and another half hour at 3.30. Hopefully we will be OK during the store coming through tonight.

Calm Christmas Day

A calm and sunny Christmas Day. Having just been through two Atlantic storms a third is on its way for 27-28Dec.

The access roadway to Porth yr Ogof is starting to be eroded away and be washed away by rain and underground water running from inland. The demolition material is being uncovered which they buried beneath the trackway used by the machines to pull down the old lifeboat station.

Storm Passes over Cemlyn

Storm force 9 winds blow over Cemlyn. Shelter on the beach from the stone ridge. Waves and sprat hitting the Skerries, but too windy to stand up to the wind and take a photo. All the stones thrown up onto the car park from the last storm now tipped back on the beach from the car park!

Cracks appearing at Port yr Ogof

The access track created to demolish the old lifeboat station is beginning to crumble already. A combination of being washed away from the high tide level, seeping ground water and an unstable angle of rest created by the piling up of loose clay. The construction material of the old lifeboat station was buried under the piled up soil and will soon be uncovered by natural erosion.

Effect of Storm Surge

The recent storms around the coast coinciding with high tides have not created much actual damage, though there has been erosion of coastal areas with sand and the edges of the grass fringes and dunes have been eroded. But also a lot of stones and sand have been thrown up the beaches and onto the coastal edges. Also a lot of seaweed has been pushed ashore and up the beaches.

Seaweed pushed up to Cestell Gardens.

Proposed New Power Station named - Wylfa Newydd

The proposed new power station was given an official name this week. They obviously don't like it being called Wylfa 'B'. Possibly because it will have nothing to to with the first Wylfa station. Different design, different owners and constructors.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-west-wales-24955867

The BBC report states 'it is hoped that the new station will boost the Island's economy'. Not a great endorsement there then!

Also the proposal is now for two reactors, not three as was originally suggested.
The formal consultation will begin in 2014.

I'm not sure that the reactors have an operating license to be used in the UK yet?

At least the photo used by BBC news was up to date. It showed the recent drilling site with the old Wylfa site in the back ground. The rig is no longer there, but a white Land Rover is. Lets hope the guys building the new site are better at that than driving across wet fields - this Land Rover has been stuck in the mud for two days now.

Wreck at Porth y Pistyll

The remains of a keel with stem scarf has re-emerged in a gully after movement of sand and stones in recent storms. It regularly disappears and re-appears. There is also the remains of an engine block buried in the gully.
